WEB, JAVA, AND DATA STRUCTURE PROJECTS

2.2 - Java for Image Applications
In this project you will study the image-related capabilities of the Java language by focusing on the 2D, 3D, or/and advanced imaging APIs. You are required to develop a Java applet that demonstrates (some of) the above, present the code used, and write a report describing your work. The suggested steps for proceeding in this project are:

  • Develop a very simple functioning applet and put it up on the web.
  • Download one of the APIs (e.g. advanced imaging) and test one simple new function from this API.
  • Enhance the original applet by adding a functionality for displaying an image and interactively testing more of the functionalities of the API.
  • If time allows you can, e.g.:
    • Add more image functionalities to your applet
    • Try downloading and testing other APIs (e.g. 2D & 3D)
    • Add practical functionality to the applet (e.g. estimation of percentages of different compounds in microscopic images of metals based on
      variable-value thresholding)
