Abstract
This special issue of Local Environment appears mid-way through the second phase (2016–2019) of Mistra Urban Futures (MUF). When I joined MUF as Director in September 2014, just in time to lead preparation of the Phase 2 Strategic Plan (Mistra urban futures strategic plan 2016-2019. Gothenburg: MUF), most of the material in this set of papers was already being drafted. My contribution has been merely to facilitate additional funding for a workshop in Manchester in March 2015 and related work to enable the finalisation of this special issue and an overall stocktaking of the GAPS project and how to take forward its important concerns as MUF evolves. This afterword contextualises the project within MUF and offers some reflections on the outcomes and findings to date.
